How many of you would consider self publishing over publishing? And what do you think would be the main problem you may have to tackle?

Gladys, you can get POD self-pub packages for very little money. Of course you have to edit, format and cover design yourself, but it's not that difficult f you know your way around a computer.
There are plenty of 'self publishing' companies out there just waiting to rip you off, so take care, but it can be really inexpensive. Mine cost me less than £50 including ISBN and distribution, glossy cover and good quality block, though it was a couple of years ago.
Best of luck :)
I wouldn't be too scared off by marketing in this digital age. You are already doing it by posting on this blog. If you are prepared to put the time in, I don't think there is much more a publisher can add to basic digital marketing and social media techniques, other than perhaps and few thousand Twitter and Facebook followers, but you can build your own following. My advice would be to start a blog if you don't already have one and start posting some ideas, or sections from your book; promote your blog to your Twitter, Facebook and and Google+ followers and see if there's any interest. Call it market research ;0)
I've really found it useful with my first draft to purchase a structural report.
This was for book 1 in my series. It really was invaluable. Thankfully I didn't have any structural issues. It was mostly just tweaking and economising. But the report threw up points that I hadn't even thought of. Plus it helps you edit your 2nd/3rd books.
I'd suggest this if you're going down the self-publishing route. Or maybe a copy editing service?
I'm going through the traditional route. It takes longer, but you really are taken care of.
I hope this helps you :)
