Can someone please tell me if 'Double Lined Spacing' on your manuscript is compulsory?

I am answer for Indian Publishers. Yes, it is essential.

But as you say,it differs from Agent to Agent.

Thanks for the responses. I guess every agent has their own preference, though some don't specify small details like double lined spacing. And irritatingly, they can hold little 'niggles' like this against you when they are being picky about presentation.
