Self publishing in a nutshell:
1. The general idea is that you don't have anyone to back u up financially through the entire publishing process...
2. It is commonly believed that self publishers tend to see publishing with a greater intention of making profit.
3. Some are against it and some are alright with it. But given the huge amount of competition for writing and breaking into the market, many writers prefer to self publish.

Interestingly enough the best selling self published books are those that are telling people how to become self published!
