The Visit Comp

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question about dialogue - has anyone used a lot in their submission piece? I've used quite a bit and then when I read the winners from last year's comp, there was not that much dialogue at all. It's all a learning curve for me, but just curious as to how much dialogue other people use.

Thanks

I have been thinking about the dialogue question, (have to admit the thinking bit hurt somewhat!) I think Dialogue is important in a story, if you think how your day would be if you didn't speak with anyone it would soon become boring it brings your world to life and so your story, as long as the dialogue is relevant then I'm with the school that says yep as much as you want because you are the artist here you choose black and white or full colour. Regards Paul.

I did use some dialogues but they were necessary, and I think you do it as well. Dialogues are essential they connect the story, give it pace, we didn’t use them as fillers.

Every story and writer is different there are different styles of writing so don’t bother. I also go through previous competition entries and there were dialogues too, so don' worry.

Good Luck.

Like Dan I agree with Susan, it depends on the story and let's face it you are the storyteller!

I used a fair bit of Dialogue but it was how the story had to be. And again like Dan maybe I'm not the best one to comment as I'm not going to win either. Regards Paul
