The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
I'm reading Warrior Scarlet by Rosemary Sutcliffe. Also I'm about half the way through Flannery O'Connor's, Complete Stories, and a quarter of the way through Alice Walker, The Complete Stories. In addition to those brilliant books, I dip into Stories and Poems for Extremely Intelligent Children of All Ages, selected by Harold Bloom.
I often refer to The Elements of Style by Strunk jr and E. B. White. Let me know how you get on with it. I've found it invaluable.
Did you know that E Dumas had 73 assistants. It's no wonder he was successfully published with that many advisors. I bet the meetings were electric with so many trying to force or express an opinion.
