I am curious as to what books you read.
What books are you reading at moment?
How many are you reading at the moment, and by what authors?
Are they contemporary award-winning authors, or traditional authors?
Do you think the authors you read have enhanced your writing skills?
I am reading, Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte.
Idylls of the King - Tennyson.
The English Novel - Walter Allen
Beyond Good and Evil - Nietzche.
Jane Eyre is brilliant.
Idylls of the King is excellent.
The English Novel is an interesting history of the Novel.
Beyond Good and Evil is a challenging read. I will continue to read it a page at a time.
I am at the moment reading one of Barry's favourites. The Hound of the Baskervilles. I've lost count the amount of times I've read this one. And yes the description of the moors is very captivating isn't it?
Barry, if you like Joseph Conrad, read The Secret Sharer.
Its a brilliant short story.
The most recent modern book of fiction I've read is Michael Grants BZRK. I thought the story flowed brilliantly with the right action to plot balance ( and a little concerned about nanos ).
But I must admit I'm still drawn to 'classics'. Quote marks only because when reading them I don't think of them as dated stories but as unique tales based in a particular period.
Engrossed with Dostoevsky's Brothers Karamazov and Conrad's Heart of Darkness at the moment.
Also impressed with Sir Doyle's Hound of the Baskervilles after watching the current films and tv series; the atmosphere created by the moors is captivating.
Though, I think I may need to up the number of modern reads.
