My favourites have changed over time. As a teenager it was spies and sci-fi, then through my 20s and 30s it was crime, I have read all of Ian Rankin's Rebus books. Into my 40's and 50s it became non-fiction philosophy, Wicca, neo-pagan and folklore.
Now I have turned to memoirs, mainly of unknown (until their book was published) writers,
Occasionally I try to re-read books that I liked in the past but often find them boring, unreadable.
I'll read anything that I know is quality writing, but I lean towards historical, action adventure.
I mainly read the winners and the finalists of the Carnegie Medal and Newbery Medal, which is children's literature. Learn from the best is my motto.
I'm disappointed with the standard of contemporary adult literature, although, I greatly admire, Joanne Harris.

I prefer thriller but I'm partial to the odd romance, I'll read anything though - as long as it's got a good story.
