The reason I ask is because the Six-Finalists of The Man Booker prize for 2012 are all historical fiction novels.

What are the best-selling Genres?

well every book needs to be seen and read before judgement can be made. It takes more than one person to say wether or not historical books are interesting or not i myself enjoy them and so does members of my family and im sure there is a wide range of readers who enjoy them aswell.

Chick-lit is out of fashion so sales of romance are down a bit. Unless you count fifty shades as romance. I can't say I do.

Crime is always a steady seller but doesn't often place in the Booker Prize. It's usually literary fiction but I don't think there is as much of that about this year. Not sure why that is.

I have just read the synopsis for all six, and aside from 'Bringing up the Bones by previous Booker prizewinner, Hilary Mantel, and perhaps 'The Garden of Evening Mists' by Tan Twan Eng. Ok, yes, and Nacropolis by Jeet Thayil, and alright, 'The Lighthouse' by Alison Moore does look back into the past, as does Will Self's 'Umberella', I think the rest are contemporary enough and diverse enough to escape the Historical Fiction tag.
