What is the genre of your novel?

There are many more genres in contemporary literature. Is your novel crossover, do you believe it has more than one genre?

Genre is something I am struggling with at the moment.

I am around 20,000 words into my first novel, It deals with themes of denial, nothingness and socio-political contempt. It's set in modern day London, though no specific dates are mentioned, save the day Lou Reed died. It's from the point of view of a nameless protagonist in the past tense.

Sorry if it sounds wanky, I really am struggling to define it into a genre, especially as I am new to the world of publishing.

My first novel was cross genre. It was women's fiction but with a magical realism/ paranormal slant.

The second is much easier, just plain old general fiction with a political undertone. Just finished the first draft!

Hi Tejinder

That's very kind of you. The first two are published, but you might like to read the first couple of chapters of the third story, posted not on this site but here

As we're talking genre perhaps I should warn you it's Napoleonic period historical military fiction :)
