I read through my manuscript before I started the long exhausting editing process, which is still on-going. I barely recognised my earliest prose from my vastly improved style at the end of my manuscript.

Adrian, I have found that my writing flows and makes perfect sense until I have finished the book, it's when I start to read it back and out loud I see just how much was in my head but wasn't quick enough to get itself down onto paper, and makes me see what rubbish I'm capable of! My first book has an extra chapter and I think, oddly, at the beginning. The book is now double in length and I feel reads better. I also find that leaving it alone for a while and going back to the start and editing again is beneficial. I actually enjoy the editing and re-write but maybe that's just me? what about you do you enjoy the editing and re-write process? Regards Paul.
Sanjana, reading is a must if you want to improve you prose, dialogue and streams-of-thought through the sensory perceptions of your characters.
Helen, as my characters interacted and grew, what defined them from each other became much clearer. This meant I had to alter some of the earlier dialogue to suit the characters true personalities.
