I read through my manuscript before I started the long exhausting editing process, which is still on-going. I barely recognised my earliest prose from my vastly improved style at the end of my manuscript.

The most noticeable improvement is the way I think while writing, more than the way I write. I perceive my character's situation better. Another thing is that I noticed that the more I read, the easier it becomes for me to express the thoughts and emotions of my characters.
I had a similar experience Adrian, though for me it was more that I understood my characters more, so was able to see that situations I had created for them at the start of the story actually didn't ring true in the entire context of the piece. So I had to go back and basically rewrite the first few chapters, and I think my book is much better for it. Have you found that to be the case with your characters as well as your prose?
