I'm not a Vampire fan, but I am a big fan of Joanne Harris, especially, Blackberry Wine, Chocolate and The Lollipop Shoes. I'm about a third of the way through, Gospel of the Loki.
I love Norse mythology, Roman history, Homer, Greek mythology, Arthurian legend and the history of the UK and Ireland from BC to the present day.
I wish there were more authors like, Rosemary Sutcliff, Henry Treece and Kevin Crossley-Holland.
It depends on the age if the readers. At the moment fir young adults it is sci-fi. This is thanks to The a Hunger Games becoming extremely famous in a short space of time so other authors churn out their own versions to try and get in on the wealth, often it doesn't work. Remember when Twilight was all the rage and there was a massive increase in vampire novels? Adult books usually sways from historical to typical coffee break books older women enjoy at work or biographies. Fantasy, however, will always be on top :)

I would welcome a trend for historical fiction.
I think trends are almost impossible to catch, especially with the speed the publishing world moves at.
I think sometimes by the time you've identified a trend it's ending.
Having said that I know some trends I'd like to see (from a selfish point of view!)
Norse mythology and Vikings (the Thor films, British Museum exhibition, Joanne Harris' Gospel of Loki)
Socialism (death of Bob Crow and Tony Benn, upcoming election, austerity measures)
Vloggers (YouTube, Vine etc)
