There are many works in the Fantasy genre, but what's your personal favorite?, and if so, why?

Good question! I prefer the fantasy genre which isn't too otherworldly - it's recognisable enough without having to understand a completely different world or culture and laws. I just find the plot and characters get lost in the complications.
For example, have magic in a world we know, instead of placing it in a never-heard-before kingdom. The majority of people I talk to, however, prefer books like LOTR and other 'epic fantasy' novels. Personally, I just find them long-winded unless executed properly.
