Is your protagonist male or female?

I wonder if most protagonists are the same sex as the author.

Yes I do you seem to have more of a male influence with my main characters.

There are less pitfalls if you write about your own gender. Including the male protagonist, I have balanced my novel with four male and four female characters. Five of my characters, three male and two female are present throughout my novel. The remaining three rounded characters earn their keep because they make vital contributions to the plot and storyline.

Hi Adrian, maybe you're right, mine, until recently have been male, but in my outline draft of the novel I'm working on (multiple murders by an increasing number of women) I seem to have two protagonists male and female taking equal parts, (I do hope it isn't some indication that maybe I'm unsure about myself after all these years!!! I really shouldn't joke like that.) But back to a bit of sense. I think the more I have written in short stories and the two novels, that maybe the way I think is changing somewhat to a more balanced way of writing in the gender of characters. what about you, do you seem to have more of a male influence with your main characters?

Regards Paul.
