A Career in Publishing: Editorial

7th January 2021 6:00pm to 7:00pm, Online

The Bloomsbury Institute proudly presents a new series of career advice talks about the publishing industry with Bloomsbury employees.

About this Event

In this brand new event series, we'll interview some of Bloomsbury's most talented team members working in the industry right now.

Our host will attempt to cut to the heart of their role, their career so far, including what they wish they'd done differently. In turn, they've promised to respond honestly, warts and all, about what they love, and love to hate, about bringing new books to life. We will then switch to questions from you. What do you really want to know?

If you’re creative, driven and have a deep love of the written word, or you think you'd enjoy connecting readers with new and exciting ideas, publishing is miles better than any other creative career. Come and find out why publishing might be worth a another look.

This session will feature a candid interview with Sara Helen Binney, one of our brilliant managing editors. Editorial are responsible for the scouting, acquisition and editing of the books we publish, and involved in every step of a book's path from submission to publication. They represent the publisher's relationship with authors and act as in-house champion of every book they work on. These people love words and ideas and putting them in their proper order, but they are also incredibly hard-working, passionate and focused. Editors work in teams, as much of their role involves project managing an external network of proofreaders and editors, to ensure every book meets its deadlines.

Ever wondered about the different jobs in publishing? This event is for you.
