While Folk Horror enjoyed its first heyday in the 70s and 80s, the genre subsequently largely disappeared from public view - until now that is. But why is Folk Horror suddenly finding itself once more in the limelight, and how can you write stories in the sub-genre that feel fresh and modern? In this workshop we'll take a look at folk horror both new and old to chart a path to its place in 2023, examining some famous examples and some of the reasons behind the resurgence, as well as closing with a writing exercise.

About the tutor:

Alex Davis a writer, tutor, lecturer and events organiser based in Derby. He has been teaching creative writing in a range of capacities for 15 years, and has been a lecturer at the University of Derby for the last five years. He is currently working towards his PHD and working extensively on a series of online and in-person writing events, including the third running of the UK Ghost Story Festival in February 2023.
