Sweet Cherry Publishing School

12th August 2024 1:00am to 16th August 2024 1:00am

Anyone looking for a path into the publishing industry has an exciting opportunity to kickstart their careers, with a week-long workshop series from Sweet Cherry. The Leicester-based business is an independent children’s book publisher renowned for creating accessible and engaging stories for children aged 0-14 and is now doing the same for the next generation of publishing talent.

Sweet Cherry’s workshops will provide intensive training designed to build the knowledge and skills needed for a future in the publishing industry, providing real-world experience that can’t be taught in the classroom.

The programme is perfect for graduates looking to specialise in the world of children’s literature and gain valuable insights into the publishing process. As an advocate for inclusivity, Sweet Cherry invites all those interested in a career in publishing, with or without experience to sign up.

The workshops will run from the 12th – 16th August and cover competencies, including submissions and commissions, editing, author interactions, design, rights management, production, sales and marketing, and distribution.

They will also explore the growing audiobook market and effective use of social media platforms like TikTok. Additionally, they will explore Sweet Cherry’s distribution model, and the importance of HR and transferable skills in publishing.

Amazon and other retailers will be featured to ensure a commercial mindset from the outset. With the launch of Every Cherry, the world’s first SEND publishing, Sweet Cherry feels it will be offering something that no other publisher will be able to offer.

Speakers at the workshop include Co-Founder and managing director of Small Wardour ltd, Carla Herbertson, Director of Ingram Publisher, Bunmi Western and author Matt Sullivan. Additional speakers are currently being confirmed.

Sweet Cherry Publisher, Sanjee De Silva, shared “We are so excited to be able to offer this opportunity to the next generation of publishing talent. Our workshops are designed to nurture creativity and build the tools and knowledge graduates need to go on to make a real impact in children’s publishing.”

Upon completing the course, participants will receive an official certificate recognising their achievement.

The workshops will be held virtually, those interested in attending need to register via the button below before Friday 9th August 2024.
