Learn the elements of young adult fiction and how you can develop your unique writing voice for a teenage audience with author Tanya Byrne. From themes and the structure of your story to establishing mood and atmosphere along with creating distinct voices for each of your characters, you'll leave this workshop with the tools to help you create a strong narrative.
This session comes as part of our Children's & YA Fiction Festival 2022, and attendees can expect a practical session involving writing exercises and discussion. 30 minutes will also be reserved for Q&A.

Tanya Byrne was born in London where she spent forty years before moving to Brighton in 2017 with her dog, Frida. After eight years at BBC Radio, she left to write her debut young adult novel, Heart-Shapes Bruise, which earned her a nomination for New Writer of the Year at the National Book Awards. As a brown, queer, working class author, she is determined not to pull the ladder up after her so she is passionate about encouraging authors from marginalised backgrounds to tell their own stories and making publishing more open to everyone.
Tanya also writes adult fiction under the pen name Lizzie Byron.
All workshops are available to purchase separately but come as part of our Children's & YA Fiction Festival 2022.
The workshop fee of £30 (inc. VAT) is payable in full online.
This is a live online event which will be presented using video conferencing software. Joining instructions and full guidance will be provided by the W&A Team a week before the event start-date.
Event materials will be made available to attendees for a time-limited period after the event at the author's discretion.
