In this online masterclass, award-winning writer Aude Konan will be offering you the tools to make change through writing. She’ll delve into the different media available to you, and how to use each of them successfully. Plus, she’ll share how to ensure your words are being heard by the people you are trying to reach.
You will come away with the skills to make your writing more impactful by targeting a specific audience, as well as a greater understanding of how you can shine a light on issues – whether global, professional or personal – that matter to you and to the communities you are part of, and/or working to support.
All proceeds raised from ticket sales of this masterclass will go towards Coffee Afrik CIC, a charity that works to advance social justice.
This masterclass will be online via Teams. It will also be recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you'll be able to catch-up and access the recording for up to two weeks after the event has taken place.
Aude Konan wrote My little sister (Ma petite soeur), her first novel, at only 12 years old. It got published by the publishing company Dagan. She followed up by winning numerous children’s writing competitions. As a playwright, she is an alumni of Talawa TYPT 15, Soho Writers Group and the Royal Court’s Introduction to Playwriting. Aude is an award-winning writer, and writes scripts as well as articles for British, French and American magazines such as Complex UK, Style Caster, Gal-Dem, Okay Africa, and The Guardian. She likes to write in different languages for no reason. Her newest book has just been released, a bilingual short stories collection called Solitudes.
Aude designs and leads creative communications training and workshops in the UK and Europe for organizations such as Expedia, UK Black Pride, Amnesty International , Stonewall, Livity, etc. Aude’s workshops explore many themes, such as 'Writing as self care'.
As a filmmaker, her short film Rabbits was screened at the Helsinki Illumenation Film Festival in 2015. Her newest short film, Pearls, a coming of age movie about, has recently been completed following a crowdfunding campaign. It was selected at the Diaspora festival of Black and Independent film 2023 and the Chicago Indie film awards 2023.
Coffee Afrik CIC disrupt systems to advance social justice, working towards a brighter future, led by inclusive community empowerment with growth, mental health, enterprise resilience and recovery pathways.
They work alongside the NHS to bring a transformative approach to Mental Health provisions, by focusing on providing culturally sensitive signposting services.
Their community-led approach looks at developing social action projects led by citizens. This includes 5 hubs in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Enfield & Harrow focused on mental health projects & Doughnut Economics led enterprise pathways, community wealth building and community organizing.
They currently manage 3 culturally competent food coops across multiple boroughs in addition to introducing the UK's first Somali run food pantry, which is managed by their clients and in collaboration with Felix Project.
