20,000 words and only three chapters?

Hi everyone,

I have only wrote three chapters and a prolouge so far, but I have already reached 20,000 words. Am I doing something right here or am I not ment to be at that word count at this particular stage of my writing?

I agree with Susan. Keep writing, focus on your story and leave word count out of the equation. Your chapter structure will most likely change through your editing process. Leave it for a couple of months after a few edits, then read it all again, out-loud. There will be plenty more editing going on.

Happy writing

I agree with Susan, and anyway a long book is no bad read- check out Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle- bestselling books, and even George R.R Martin's A Song Of Ice and Fire isn't short. These are just 2 examples, and long books can be just as successful as any, so keep on writing- don't worry about all that.
