I have two families in a story I'm writing, each with a family crest that is the sun and moon respectively. My question is, is it a good idea to have their first names which have sun and moon meanings in them? Or would it be too cliché?

I assume you already have the family surnames involving the sun and moon (Lunarus and Solenus or something...) so it might be a little overkill to give both names a crest-related twist.
P.S it just occurred to me. It could also be something that is completely obvious. You said it is their families crest, there for it is only natural they stick to that kind of naming, especially if they are proud of their heritage and want to keep it alive. So I guess it also depends on what your story is, and what the background of each family is.
It sounds cliche because everyone is doing it, but everyone is doing it for a reason. It works, people respond to it, we like it.
I also do this with my character's names as well, but instead of playing with the meaning of the names, I have a tendency to create my own names (they don't actually exist, as far as I know that is) and play with the way they sound.
As long as it is not too obvious, then I believe it will be just fine, more than that, great.
