I was hoping to share the first chapter of my novel, which I hope is aimed at the age group from 10 to 15 but not being sure of these things I would like to know what other people think about that, and also I have roughly 4500 words is that too much to post, I can't really reduce the chapter to make it fit or it probably won't make sense. anyone with any ideas, PLEASE!!!
I would be really interested to see how you've pitched it. 10 - 15 is quite a wide range! It goes from Y5 to GCSE students. That's not a criticism by the way - not at all. I'm just curious. My book is aimed at 9 - 12 year olds but I sometimes wonder if I haven't stepped a toe into YA.
In my experience (I've been a primary school teacher for about 15 years, mostly teaching 10 and 11 year olds), children like their protagonists to be either of a similar age to them or slightly older as their interests, what they do and their maturity levels are more likely to be similar. That should have a bearing on the pitching I think. Also language choices. e.g. I really think one of my characters would call another one a "bitch" but I doubt that'd be suitable for the age group. Tricky...
I will look out for your work. :)
Ah so there is a lot to be said in about 1500 words, is it possible to post half and then post another half or doesn't the site allow more than one post at a time? Regards Paul. oops nearly added kisses at the the end there...
love to read it please post.... You can if I remember only post up to 3,000 words.
