How many words?

How many words do you tend to write in one sitting?

Is there a maximum or a minimum you work to?

What do you consider a good day?

How long do you tend to work on your MS before you've had enough?

I had quite a bad habit of just sitting down in front of the computer and writing as much as I could. Now, I write around 500 words on days that I work (i have a full time job) and 1000-1500 words on days i dont work. I find it takes the pressure off and gives you a nice easy goal

I don't write every day, but I try to write 500/600 words at a sitting

Graham Greene advocates 300 words a day. That's 2100 words a week, 109,200 a year. A novel and a good start to the next book.

I have cut 60,000 words from my completed manuscript which sands at 82,000 words. I'm satisfied with my plot, storyline and characters, but there are patches of dialogue and prose that still need polishing.

It's interesting that you say 1000-2000 words is around 2 chapters, Asuntha.

Usually one of my chapters is around 4000 words. But then in total my books tend to have maybe 24-25 chapters.

So I guess that makes sense.

Jonathan, yes I can imagine having two jobs does restrict your writing a bit! I'm impressed you research when you're not writing.

Any spare moment in the day, I try to write. At the moment I'm torn between carrying on with book 3 or going back to edit book 2. Bah! edits :(

For some crazy reason, I gave myself the goal of 2k words a day, and have managed to stick to it. But that's because I literally have no life at the moment - I have a 9-5 job too.

I guess I should thank my obsessive personality for that one.
