hi-I am scared to ask this question, but I'll go ahead anyway. I really hope for replies! In a scenario in my recent novel-a group of people whose only similarity is they have all faced life-changing challenges recently, are asked to join a secret (potentially dangerous) mission whose details will be revealed only after they have signed up. Their reward would be their greatest desire being fulfilled. They don't have to identify that wish yet, they don't know how it will come true-but they have the choice of signing up or walking away and perhaps fulfilling their dream their own way. Would you sign up? Why?
Damien, Ritesh: more risk takers ; )
Victoria: destination vs. journey is a great concept. Here, you are assured getting to your destination, but someone else controls the journey. It would favour impulse over rationale, a rush of blood to calculated plans. All the characters have been through a fair bit, their dreams and intentions are clearer because they have already lost a lot, though they don't know to what end. They could also be prejudiced because of their experiences, but aren't we all?
Renee-the sole one so far who wouldn't. I thought there would have to be people who wouldn't want to tamper with destiny or who didn't want to give up control.Good on you! It gives me some insight for the motivation of my characters.
I'm alone here :) I wouldn't. I don't mind taking my own risks ... I do all the time, but I wouldn't trust anyone to fulfill them for me. I like to control my own life.
My books are all about the journey. I often cite the destination as irrelevant. If the mission was going to be an incredible journey, better than treading my own path, I would sign up. If what really made achieving my dreams great was the blood, sweat and tears I put in, perhaps I wouldn't. Depends on the dream, doesn't it.
