This isn't a question that I need to know to help with my writing, I was just curious as to what other people find influentual when writing their stories/novels. I find listening to music or watching T.V. as well as my mood influences what I write. What about everyone else?
I listen to classical music or write or edit in silence. I hope that some of the genius of classical composers rubs off on me. But my biggest influence is reading poetry and novels by award winning novelists.

I have to have piece and quiet, not easy with two kids in the house, but I can't write if there's any noise in the background.
