I've spent a lot of time just writing, on my own, and only joined this site this week but I have seen a couple of people mention 'landmarking'. Could someone please tell me what this is? Apologies if I should know this

To Correct my last post, do not have Landmarks in the middle of a chapter. Landmarks should appear at the end of a chapter. However, you can start your novel with an earth-shattering Landmark.
Thank you Adrian, that was a really helpful answer. Much appreciated
I spoke to my private literary editor about landmarking a novel. Obviously the longer the novel the more landmarks there will be.
I was reliably informed that landmarks appear on average, at every twelve to fifteen pages, or less, of the best traditional and contemporary novels. But there will be some earth-shattering landmarks amongst the many landmarks that combine to make a novel. The number will vary according the length of the novel.
Landmarks are dramatic events. But they also serve to highlight what to expect to happen in the future of the novel. A short to long range view of future events. They can appear at the beginning, middle or end of a section.
I hope that helps.
Good luck.
