I've been working on a novel since August last year and I'm about half way through. But I came up with an idea for another novel and I've started writing that too! Has anyone else got multiple projects on the go? I don't think it's a bad thing. But I do feel like I'm cheating on my first novel :-)
Yes, I have!! I have been attempting to write a novella from last June but gave up this year and now I'm writing (and almost finished) my new stream of consciousness novella!! :)
Being a stupendous procrastinator myself and having an attention span close to a five year old, I would recommend focusing on writing one novel and, if you hit writer's block, engaging in some writing excercises or short stories to get your groove on.
Starting an entirely seperate novel is, as Jon has said, an enormous undertaking and I wouldn't ever want to not put my best effort into a novel because I was distracted. Keep the one major project and, if you have ideas for another novel, write them down or record your ideas in your personal way, so that you can return to them at a later date when you can pour all of your energy into them.
Hope this helps!
I've a few on the go. When my thought processes are engaged with a set of characters I'm in the zone, but that means as I go along the void is then filled with other characters wanting to be heard, so I get it down while I can. Always carry a note pad is my advise.
