Photograph Usage from the Internet

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help with this? I am currently writing an article for a magazine about a crime that was committed in America and I need images to support it.

Whilst there are dozens of photographs online, I assume they're all copyrighted. Can I still use them for my article?

Any advice would be really appreciated

Many thanks

Alison

I agree with Cherry - talk to the magazine, they may well pay for use of the photo, if the owner insists on payment.

In general, whether it's a photo, text or whatever - it is copyrighted and someone owns the copyright. Unless it's really old or there is an express statement along with the image waiving copyright.

Text is the worst thing to plagiarise online; there are software programs that can swiftly check a paragraph or more and tell if it's been copied.

There are thousands of beautiful images that you can use on unsplash.com It is courteous to mention the photographer if you use their image but not an obligation.

Than you so much for taking the time to reply.

Cherry, it's a UK magazine covering a historical crime that was committed in America and the image I want to use is of the person who allegedly committed it.

There are many images on the internet that would be ideal but they are from large news sites such as CNN so I wouldn't know where to start in asking for permission!

Thanks once again
