Do you develop the stories Plot before you start to write?

Or do you just soldier on, and develop it as you write?

Well, as the writer of this question, I am amazed by the comments it has sparked, and congratulate you all. Actually, I can see merit in all your answers and think it might be "Different Strokes for Different Folks."

When I started writing, I didn't plan. But now I do have chapters that prompt me.

If anyone is interested, I could provide a brief outline!

Ha, ha!!

Then anyone who attempts more than one must be certifiable. Shall I give the white coats directions to your place once they've collected me? ;)

"Chekhov answered, 'Anyone who attempts to write a novel without a plan must be mad.'"

Too many words there...

All it needs is...

" Anyone who attempts to write a novel must be mad." :-)
