To Plot, or not to Plot

Do you develop the stories Plot before you start to write?

Or do you just soldier on, and develop it as you write?

I agree with Jonathan.

The biggest mistake I made was not planning my novel. I wasted two years. I had to start afresh. I outlined my novel from the beginning to the end. It was so much easier writing to a structured plan.

I start with the ending and work towards that, that's all the planning I do. Everything else is made up as I go.

I think maybe its good to have a rough idea about a plot before you start, but I generally, as you put it, soldier on... Writing is much more fun that way. Too much plotting and planning takes all the joy out of it.
