Bit of a cheeky plea. I've been asked to do a workshop on Beginnings mid January, can anyone suggest any poems that would fit the theme. I've got a couple and have several soppy ones about babies but could do with something more muscular. Any suggestions would be muchappreciated. Thank you. DM
Last night I wrote MOST of a poem, “One Of The Lucky Ones” about a woman who flees her home country to save her baby daughter from genital mutilation (clitoridectomy). .. but I left the piece of paper at home (an 8km walk in each direction from my nearest laptop-wifi interface). The last 2 lines are
“Not a lot, I’ll admit.
But it’s a start”
Not the height of originality, perhaps. But guaranteed not soppy.
If you accept my connection request, and send me an e-mail address, I promise to send you the poem before the 14th.
Thank you Adrian. Good to have more sources, I have been using This Word is not For Turning, oddments from Guardian, LRB and Carrie Etter, Hannah Lowe etc. Your suggestions are new to me so as the workshop is half written are very timely. Thank you. Daphne
Thank you John I will chase that up.
