Hi all, I'm working on a novel for 9-12 year olds in the supernatural/adventure genre and I was wondering if anyone can recommend any books for me to read for my research?

When I was very young I read and reread Enid Blyton. She was an amazing writer for children even though she apparantly loathed them. I lived on a farm and we had a couple of orchards and a large woodland area. She wrote a collection of books about a massive tree in the middle of a forest that was so big it reached beyond the cloud. The tree gree all sorts of different fruit on different days and an assortment of crazy funny characters lived in the tree. At the top of the tree beyond the clouds there were different lands every day. Such lands as the 'land of take what you want' where one can literally take what one wanted. Inside the tree there was a great big slide that the children slid down on the most comfy of pillows. Such characters as Moonface and Silky the Elf (?) illuminated the story. The first book was 'The Enchanted Wood' and was subsequently followed by 'The Magic Faraway Tree' and 'The Wishing Chair Adventures'. If I had them now I would still read them such is the child in me
I'm also reading through the Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage.
Thanks everyone! Some helpful suggestions here.
Spiderwick Chronicles and Percy Jackson have been on my list to read for a while. They're a bit more fantasy than my novel but definitely worth a look.
Thanks for the long list Adrian! Will look into those.
Lily, the Wolves of Mercy trilogy sounds great and will def look into those - they sound like their more similar to the genre I'm working on.
Louise, Amazon is great for that isn't it. I like the way you can search by age, genre etc. I also discovered that Amazon gives you a sneak peek into some of the books on there and I've read through a few beginnings which has been really useful.
I started reading Inkheart and only got about two thirds through it - I got bored!
