When you finally decided to sit down and write a story whether it's a short story full novel screenplay or a book of poetry what was your intention. Was it to grab a bit of the limelight and fame or was it the money that interested you or maybe it was simply for pleasure.
Mine was simply pleasure I love creating story's but of course I would love the fame and fortune Who wouldn't.
I'll have to admit it's all three. More of pleasure and money then fame.
I guess writing is self exploration, its makes you laugh, cry, feel good, feel bad and all the other complex emotional reactions you have when you release something that is normally locked deep inside. Adrian Sroka quoted - Orwell - which I think is one of the best descriptions of the 'why-write' question.
Although at that time he was speaking (in an interview) as Eric Blair- which enabled him to look at the George Orwell [character he created] as an altogether different person to his other self (Eric Blair).
Creation in all it forms that we call art seems to me to be a basic need of humanity, like breathing. And perhaps it is the basic reason of what makes us all who we are.
Thanks for a good response guys. It's quite nice to know what other fellow writers like. Credit to you all and outstanding credit to you Kimberly....... I happened to stumble across your books Jonathan so yes I already knew you had published books.... They are a credit to you, well done. Its funny how every think we see touch or listen to started off as an idea. I just hope lurking in the pages of writers and artists there is the next JK Rowling. ;)
