Writing a book for the first time.

Hey, I'm new to this site. I'm writing a book for the first time and would some tips from people who have done it before.

- What did you find hardest?

- How did you get through writes block?

- Methods they found they helped them sit down and create?

- What did you enjoy most about it?

Thanks, if you have any questions to ask me please do.

Brave man! Are you writing NF or a novel? I suppose at least with fact it's mostly a matter of organising your research in a logical sequence before joining it up...or is that fiction writing? :D

I'm not sure there's any easy part to writing: it's all hard going, though for me editing is the most painful. Like the night being darkest just before dawn. Writer's block is mostly a matter of self-confidence, IMO. You probably need to be either supremely self-centred or a really good writer not to suffer it, which is probably why I often do. It goes away after a while if you just keep on doing a little, but often.

Creativity needs a little help, I found, so I write a pretty detailed outline before I start the writing proper. An acquaintance used to re-write each chapter as she went along, perfecting it before she went on to the next, but I can't work that way - I get bored and must move on. It just goes to show there's no 'right' way to write.

Enjoyment? Hallelujah - 'The End'!! But then there's editing, sending out to agents/self-pubbing/etc, etc, and worst of all...self-promotion.

It's masochism, really.

Best of luck!
