Waiting

by Isabella Hynde
25th March 2012

I've been reading the blogs and questions and answers on this site and realise that we're all waiting for something. We might be waiting for the results of the Short Story Competition (hint hint), waiting to hear from an agent (missing or not), waiting for the next inspiring thought, or for the next comment on our shared works. What are you waiting for and how do you handle the waiting?

I'm just waiting to get it all right if I'm honest.

Hi Melanie

I think this website helps us all feel a little less lonely while we're writing or waiting or both. You can see from all the other comments that it is a bit like Waiting for Godot but none of us are waiting alone. I'm sure you're right about success. It must be a lot easier to cope with the waiting once you've been published. The voice that we all hear from time to time that says, 'You're never going to do this,' starts to say, 'You've done it once. You can do it again.' Do you think we're waiting in some big pipeline and as soon as someone gets published they disappear off into the clouds never to join us waiting folk again? I hope not.

One thing I can recommend, if you haven't already found it, is the Community Writing Game. It's up to about 77 entries so far. AS Glenn started it some weeks back and we all just join in and add in entry to the story. You might have to look on page 3 of the questions and answers section (the one we're in now). That will make you feel connected to the other waiting, aspiring writers. I wish you the best of luck too in the competition!

Hi Isabella

I am waiting for the results of the short story competition too! I understand the winner will be notified in March, and I also know that winners are usually notified before anyone else... and the end of March is almost here!!!! I'm trying hard to accept the fact that I probably haven't got anywhere. This may be defeatist, or realistic. It's like Waiting for Godot isn't it? But thank you for sharing your thoughts anyway; I don't feel so lonely now!

I suspect the more successful one is, the easier this waiting game becomes. But I have only just started to get somewhere with my writing, as I've not been sending my work out-

although I've been writing for many years. It's a slow and painful journey, though I think if I had more successes under my belt, I wouldn't feel so desperate!

I wish you the best of luck in the comp. - even though I would like to win (of course!)
