Writing time

Seeing as writing is a very time consuming and somewhat anti-social occupation how do you make space for it without annoying partners/family? Do you just fit in bits & pieces around everyday life, or do you set aside a regular specific time when you're not to be disturbed and keep to it rigidly?

Interesting question. Seeing writing as a job - i.e. not feeling guilty for doing it instead of hanging with friends - was a big step for me. Once I believed enough in what I was doing I became far more comfortable with choosing writing over life

If you are serious about your writing you will find time, though some other things may become less important.

I try stick to writing while I travel (I'm on the road around 3 hours in total, everyday) -that way I don't waste time.

Other than that, I write on sunny weekends (sunny- coz it helps with the flow) and in between classes (I do a lot in between classes) aaand... like Siew Leng Lee, late at night as well.

SO, I don't really disturb my family as such. The problem comes with typing... I get carried away when I'm online, and end up at the computer for nearly the whole day, which makes my mum VERY mad!
